Adam’s Peak (Sri Pada)
A depression on Adam’s Peak, resembling a large footprint, makes it a major pilgrimage destination. The footprint or Sri Pada is revered by the Buddhist as that of Lord Buddha while the Hindus & the Muslims believe it to be the footprint of Lord Shiva’s & Adam’s respectively. Accessible after an arduous climb of over 5000 steps carved in the mountain, Adam’s Peak is thronged by believers & nature lovers alike.
Singhamalai Tunnel
This charming heritage tunnel designed by Sir Guilford Lindsey Molesworth is an engineering feat of the 19th century. The longest tunnel with a length of 562 meters, amongst the 46 tunnels on Colombo-Badulla route, it was earlier named Poolbank Tunnel after the estate above the tunnel. However now it takes the name Singhamalai Tunnel after a lion shaped rock in the area. A train journey on this route is a must to experience the thrill of travelling through the tunnels of Sri Lanka!
Devon Falls
Named after the colonial coffee estate nearby, Devon Falls, tumbling at the height of 97 meters, are considered to be one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the country. The milky falls are best experienced along with a hot cup of tea from the close by shop.
Saint Clair’s Falls
The gushing waters of St. Clair’s falls are often nicknamed the “Little Niagara of Sri Lanka”, Cascading at the height of 80 meters amidst the scenic hills & rolling backdrop of Saint Clair’s tea estate, the falls are a feast for the eyes.
Mlesna Tea Castle
This fairytale castle perched atop hills houses the largest tea shop in the world. It is the place to shop for the famous Ceylon Tea and other varieties in cute souvenir packaging. The gift shop is a treasure trove of fascinating tea memorabilia like tiny tea scoops, pretty teapots and tea-caddies. A great stop on highway A7 for a freshly brewed cuppa & delicious snacks!
